AVENUE PLAY THERAPY
SERVICES
LEARN TO PLAY
Learn to play supports children who have difficulties engaging in pretend play. The Play therapist facilitates children’s play, helping to build their capacity to initiate play.
Children explore and build on their play skills, imaginative play, turn-taking, problem-solving, language and social-emotional development.
Learn to Play supports children’s self-regulation.
Self-regulating is necessary for children’s growth and development across social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.
HUMANISTIC PLAY THERAPY
Humanistic Play Therapy is a non-directive play interaction where the child sets the pace of play in an emotionally safe environment. The playroom is where they can express themselves.
Children can express and explore their thoughts and feelings and make sense of the world around them. Play is accepting of the individual.
Non-directive play provides children with opportunities to engage in play with others in a safe and supported environment, building on their social skills.
FILIAL THERAPY
Filial Therapy is a form of family therapy with practical skills under the supervision of a Filial Therapist. Filial Therapy supports and strengthens the parent-child relationship through a weekly one on one playtime for approximately
20-30 minutes.
Filial Therapy supports parents in understanding and responding to their child’s emotional world and needs. During this playtime, the child communicates primarily through their play, not words.
